      U vojsci Sjedinjenih Država (SAD), oznaka za beretku (beret flash) je izvezena tkanina u obliku štita koja je obično visoka 2,25 inča (5,72 cm) i široka 1,875 inča (4,76 cm) s polukružnom bazom koja je pričvršćena na podlogu za učvršćenje vojničke beretke. Beret flash, engleska riječ za šarenu tkaninu pričvršćenu na vojna pokrivala za glavu nosi se iznad lijevog oka s viškom tkanine beretke oblikovanim, presavijenim i navučenim preko desnog uha dajući joj karakterističan izgled. 

      In the United States (US) military, a beret flash is a shield-shaped embroidered cloth that is typically 2.25 in (5.72 cm) tall and 1.875 in (4.76 cm) wide with a semi–circular base that is attached to a stiffener backing of a military beret. These flashes – a British English word for a colorful cloth patch attached to military headgear - are worn over the left eye with the excess cloth of the beret shaped, folded, and pulled over the right ear giving it a distinctive appearance.

      Oficiri zračnih snaga koji su u snagama sigurnosti ili su „vremenski“ padobranci (weather parachutists) nose svoju beretku na isti način kao i Kopnena vojska, dok oficiri taktičke kontrole avio prometa (TACP) pričvršćuju minijaturnu verziju svojih poliranih metalnih oznaka čina ispod TACP grba na TACP „Beret flsh“.       Air Force commissioned officers who are in the security forces or are weather parachutists wear their beret flash in the same manner as the Army while tactical air control party (TACP) officers attach a miniature version of their polished metal rank insignia below the TACP Crest on the TACP Beret Flash. Other Air Force airmen and NCOs assigned to an Air Force specialty code (AFSC) authorized to wear a military beret with a beret flash will affix either their beret flash or beret flash with crest, depending on the AFSC. Joint beret flashes - such as those worn by the Multinational Force and Observers and the Joint Communications Support Element - are worn by all who are assigned, given their uniform regulations allow, and will wear them in the manner prescribed by the joint unit.

      Oznaka za berteke Kopnene vojske ima osnovu u nacionalnim bojama, bijelim zvijezdama na plavoj podlozi, koje su nosili vojnici u Revolucionarnom ratu i istakli ih nakon pobjede u Yorktown-u.

      Prema povijesnim zapisima, zastave Kontinentalne vojske su bile plave boje. Ratna zastava komandanta Kontinentalne vojske  je bila svjetlo plava sa trinaest zvijezdica. Ostale zastave iz istog perioda su bile tamnoplave. Plava boja simbolizira uniju Sjedinjenih država trinaest zvjezdica predstavlja prve kolonije. Znak je odobren za upotrebu 20. 11. 2000.

      The Army flash is based on the National colors, white stars on a blue field, which were carried by the Continental Army through the Revolutionary War and present at the victory of Yorktown.

      According to historical references, the flags used by the Continental Army were "blue". The field flag of the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army was light blue with thirteen stars. Other flags of the same time period were dark blues with thirteen stars. Symbolism: The blue background is symbolic of the union of the United States flag and the thirteen stars represent the original colonies. The beret flash was approved on 20 Nov 2000.

      Vojnici i podoficiri Kopnene vojske stavljaju svoju oznaku raspoznavanja jedinice (Distinctive unit insignia  DUI), oznaku raspoznavanja puka (kada manja jedinica nema ovlaštenje za DUI), oznaku sa revera glavnog narednika Kopnene vojske (kada je dodijeljena) ili oznaku sa revera podoficira višeg vojnog savjetnika zapovjednika Združene komande (kada su dodijeljene) na sredini njihove beretke. Zastavnici (warrant officers) Kopnene vojske  pričvršćuju svoje polirane metalne oznake činova na središte svoje beretke, dok generali mogu odlučiti pričvrstiti obične ili minijaturne polirane metalne oznake činova. Vojni kapelani pričvršćuju svoje polirane metalne oznake grana, naspram svojih oznaka čina, na središte svoje beretke.

      Army soldiers and non-commissioned officers (NCOs) affix their distinctive unit insignia (DUI), regimental distinctive insignia (when no DUI is authorized), Sergeant Major of the Army collar insignia (when assigned), or Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff collar insignia (when assigned) to the center of their beret flash. Army warrant officers and commissioned officers affix their polished metal rank insignia to the center of their beret flash while general officer's may choose to affix regular or miniature polished metal rank insignia. Army chaplains affix their polished metal branch insignia, vs their rank insignia, to the center of their beret flash.

      Dizajn svih „podloga“ oznaka beretki američkog Ministarstva obrane (DoD) izradio je i/ili odobrio Institut za heraldiku, Ministarstvo vojske. Kada jedinica koja je podnijela zahtjev ima pravo na vlastiti organizacijski znak beretke, institut će provesti istraživanje heraldike jedinice koja je podnijela zahtjev, kao i prijedloge dizajna od jedinice koja je zatražila. Koristeći geometrijske podjele, oblike i boje, heraldički umjetnik stvorit će dizajn koji će predstavljati povijest i misiju jedinice koja traži. Nakon što se jedinica složi oko dizajna, institut će odobriti izradu nove „podloge“ za beretke i utvrdit će proizvodne upute za proizvođače ovlaštene za proizvodnju heraldičkih materijala. Institut će također pratiti proizvodnju nove beretke kako bi se osigurala kvaliteta i tačnost dizajna.

      The design of all US Department of Defense (DoD) beret flashes are created and/or approved by The Institute of Heraldry, Department of the Army. When a requesting unit is entitled to have its own organizational beret flash, the institute will conduct research into the requesting unit's heraldry, as well as design suggestions from the requesting unit, in the creation of a unit or specialty beret flash. Leveraging geometrical divisions, shapes, and colors a heraldic artist will create a design that will represent the history and mission of the requesting unit. Once the unit agrees upon a design, the institute will authorize the creation of the new beret flash and will establish manufacturing instructions for the companies authorized to produce heraldic materials. The institute will also monitor the production of the new beret flash to ensure quality and accuracy of the design is maintained.
