Iako se smatra da korijeni oklopnih jedinica sežu do osnivanja
konjičkih jedinica, prvi "pravi" počeci datiraju u vrijeme Prvog
svjetskog rata. Tenkovska služba Nacionalne vojske formirana je 05.
03. 1918. godine i raspuštena po svršetku rata (1920). Oklopne snage
su ponovno formirane 10. 06. 1940. godine, a stalna grana Kopnene
vojske postaju 1950. godine. Škola oklopnih jedinica Vojske
Sjedinjenih Američkih Država smještena je u Fort Benningu.

Reorganizacija Nacionalne garde zahvatila je dio jedinica. Neke jedinice
su preimenovane ili deaktivirane. Nekima su podređene jedinice
preraspoređene u druge komande. |

CAVALRY UNITS
KONJIČKE JEDINICE |
|
Even though the armor branch traces its linage back to the original
cavalry units, its first beginnings date from the First World War. The
Tank service of the National Army was formed on 5 March 1918. and
disbanded after the war in 1920. The Armored Force was formed on 10
July 1940, and became a permanent branch of the Army in 1950. The
United States Army Armor School is now located at Fort Benning. |

insignias. The cannon and tracked vehicle symbols represent the
mechanized role of the division.
The tank
tread, gun, and lightning flash are symbolic of mobility, power, and

The 50th Armored Division replaced the 44th Infantry Division within
the New Jersey Army National Guard. Became nicknamed the "Jersey Blues."
Therefore most of its elements 'inherited' the history of the organic
units of the old 44th, and elements of the new 44th perpetuated the
history and traditions of former units in Illinois. On 1 September
1993, following this decision, the 50th Armored Division was
inactivated, and its brigades joined other divisions.
