Grčke
oružane snage (Eλληνικές
Ένοπλες Δυνάμεις,
Ellinikés Énoples Dynámis)
se satoje od Grčkog generalštaba nacionalne odbrane, Grčke kopnene
vojske, Grčke ratne avijacije i Grčke ratne mornarice. Ministarstvo
nacionalne odbrane je civilni autoritet nad grčkim oružanim snagama. Kao
članica Evropske Unije i NATO saveza učestvuju u vojnim misijama diljem

The Hellenic Armed Forces (Eλληνικές Ένοπλες
Δυνάμεις, Ellinikés Énoples Dynámis)
are combined military forces of Greece. They consist of the Hellenic
National defense general Staff, the Hellenic army, the Hellenic
Navy, and the Hellenic Air Force. The civilian authority for the
Greek military is the Ministry of National Defense. Greece is an EU
and NATO member country and participates in peacekeeping operations
such as ISAF in Afghanistan, EUFOR in Bosnia and Chad, and KFOR in
Kosovo. |
Greece currently has universal compulsory military service for
males, under which all men above 18 years of age serve for 9 months.
Women may serve in the Greek military, but cannot be conscripted.
Greece is the largest importer of conventional weapons in Europe and
its military spending is the highest in the European Union (relative
to G.D.P). |

HELLENIC FLAG
GRČKA ZASTAVA |
|
Grčka zastava
(Σημαία
της Ελλάδος) je sastavljena od
devet plavo-bijelih traka. U gornjem lijevom uglu na plavom kvadratu je
bijeli krst simbol grčkog Pravoslavlja. Tradicionalno objašnjenje za 9
traka je da su one za svako slovo fraze "Sloboda ili smrt"
"Ελευθερία
ή Θάνατος"
("E-lef-the-ri-a
i Tha-na-tos").
5 plavih za
Έλευθερία,
a 4 bijele za
ή
Θάνατος.
Postoje i druge teorije, kao ona da 9 traka simbolizira devet Muza (Božica
kulture i civilizacije). Zatim da plavo predstavljaju more i nebo, a
bijelo valove itd... Izgled zastave je usvojen u Epidaurusu 13. 01. 1822.

The flag
of Greece
(Σημαία της Ελλάδος,
popularly referred to as the Γαλανόλευκη or the Κυανόλευκη, the
"blue-white") is based on nine equal horizontal stripes of blue
alternating with white.
There is a blue canton in the upper hoist-side corner bearing a white
cross;
the cross symbolises Greek Orthodoxy,
the established religion
of the people of Greece. According to popular tradition, the nine stripes
represent the nine syllables
of the phrase "Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος" ("Freedom or Death", " E-lef-the-ri-a
i Tha-na-tos"), the five blue stripes for the syllables "Έλευθερία" and
the four white stripes "ή Θάνατος". There is also a different theory, that
the nine stripes symbolize the nine Muses,
the goddesses of art and civilization (nine has traditionally been one of
the numbers of reference for the Greeks).
The above patterns were
officially adopted by the First National Assembly at Epidausrus on 13
January 1822.
Blue and white have many interpretations, symbolizing the colors of the
famed Greek sky and sea (combined with the white clouds and waves), etc. |
