The NATO bombing of Yugoslavia was NATO's military operation against
the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The operation was not authorised
by the United Nations and was the first time that NATO used military
force without the approval of the UN Security Council and against a
sovereign nation that did not pose a threat to members of the
alliance. France participated in the 1999 NATO bombing of
Yugoslavia, which resulted in a UN administration of Kosovo and then
to eventual independence. France currently has 1,368 troops serving
in Kosovo in the NATO led Kosovo Force. Originally there was 7,000
French troops in KFOR. |

The Kosovo
Force (KFOR)
is a NATO-led
international force responsible
for establishing a secure environment in Kosovo.
KFOR entered Kosovo on 12 June 1999 under a United
Nations mandate, two days after
the adoption of UN
Security Council Resolution 1244.
At the time of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Kosovo was facing
a grave humanitarian crisis, with military forces from the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) and
the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA) in daily
engagement. Ethnic tensions were at their highest and the death toll
had reached a historic high. Nearly one million people had fled Kosovo
as refugees. As of February 1, 2012, KFOR consists of 5,790 troops |

STRUCTURE OF KFOR
STRUKTURA SNAGA
KFOR-a |
|
Evropske Unije). |
With the
move to the so-called Transition Gate 2, KFOR has been restructured,
reducing the number of MNBGs to two. The decision to restrucutre was
taken in October 2010, based on the security situation in Kosovo and
the performance of the Kosovo police and the European Rule of Law
Mission (EULEX). |

Komanda KFOR-a ostaje locirana u bazi "Filmski grad" pored Prištine, a
postoji još dvaneast drugih vojnih baza širom Kosova u kojima su
stacionirane čete iz sastava KFOR-a. Dodatno, uz snage smještene na
teritoriji Kosova, NATO nastavlja sa održavanjem rezervnih snaga
spremnih za slanje na Kosovo ukoliko to situacija bude zahtijevala. |
HQ KFOR continues to be located at Camp Film City and there are twelve
other Camps to accommodate the companies of KFOR. In addition to the
KFOR troops in Kosovo, NATO continues to maintain a reserve force ready
to deploy if necessary and required. |

Borbena grupa (ovdje) podrazumijeva vojnu organizaciju razine bataljona
A Battle Group is a military organization at the level of a battalion,
consisting of numerous companies. These companies are highly mobile,
flexible and rapidly deployable to potential trouble spots all over
Kosovo. There are two MNBGs, which constitute KFOR and are ready to
react to any threatening situation: HQ MNBG East, located at Camp
Bondsteel and the HQ MNBG West, located at Camp Villagio Italia. |

As of 1 February
2010, the Multinational Task Forces changed the structure and become
Multinational Battle Groups. KFOR contingents were originally
grouped into 4 regionally based multinational brigades. The brigades
were responsible for a specific area of operations, but under a
single chain of command under the authority of Commander KFOR. In
August 2005, the North Atlantic Council decided to restructure KFOR,
replacing the four existing multinational brigades with five task
forces, to allow for greater flexibility with, for instance, the
removal of restrictions on the cross-boundary movement of units
based in different sectors of Kosovo. |
