       Činovi u Oružanim snagama Republike Hrvatske propisani su Zakonom o službi u OS RH (Narodne Novine broj 33/2002.). Tim su Zakonom propisani činovi, dodjela činova, promaknuća, te prava i obveze djelatne vojne osobe kojoj je dodijeljen. Izgled oznaka činova i dužnosti propisani su Odlukom o oznakama činova i dužnosti u OS RH (Narodne Novine br.5 /2000). Generali i časnici HKoV i HRZ na svečanim i službenim odorama oznaku čina nose na ramenima (epoletama), a dočasnici na rukavu (iznad lakta), bluze ili košulje. Admirali i časnici HRM na zimskim odorama oznaku čina nose na rukavu (ispod lakta), a na ljetnim odorama oznaka čina nosi se na ramenima. Dočasnici oznaku čina na obje odore nose na rukavu (iznad lakta). Na ratnim (maskirnim) odorama činovi se nose na lijevoj strani odore, iznad džepa (jakne ili košulje). Osim oznaka činova i dužnosti, na vojnim odorama nalaze se još i oznake pripadnosti granama OSRH (HKoV, HRZ, HRM) te oznake korpusa, brigada ili drugih vojnih postrojbi.

      Ranks in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia are prescribed by the Act on Service in the Croatian Armed Forces (Official Gazette No. 33/2002). This Act prescribes ranks, assignment of ranks, promotions, and the rights and obligations of an active military person to whom he is assigned. The appearance of rank and duty insignia is prescribed by the Decision on rank and duty insignia in the CAF (Official Gazette No. 5/2000). NCOs wear the rank insignia on both uniforms on the sleeve (above the elbow). On war (camouflage) uniforms, ranks are worn on the left side of the uniform, above the pocket (jacket or shirt). In addition to insignia of ranks and duties, military uniforms also contain insignia of affiliation with branches of the CAF (HKoV, HRZ, HRM) and insignia of corps, brigades or other military units.

      General zbora je generalski čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, odmah ispod čina stožernog generala kao najvišeg u hrvatskoj vojnoj hijerarhiji. U Hrvatskoj ratnoj mornarici odgovara mu čin admirala. U većini vojska ovaj čin se naziva jednostavno general (tako i u Američkoj vojsci, Britanskoj vojsci, Njemačkoj vojsci). U Španjolskoj vojsci odgovara mu čin General de Ejercito (general vojske). U vojsci bivšeg SSSR-a odgovarao mu je čin general-pukovnika (ruski Генера́л-полко́вник), kao i Jugoslavenskoj narodnoj armiji.

      General zbora (corps general) is a general in the Croatian Army, just below the rank of staff general as the highest in the Croatian military hierarchy. LIEUTENANT GENERAL    GENERAL PUKOVNIK

      General pukovnik je generalski čin u mnogim vojskama. U Hrvatskoj vojsci je ispod čina generala zbora, a iznad general bojnika, dok mu u Hrvatskoj ratnoj mornarici odgovara čin viceadmirala. Prema NATO-ovoj klasifikaciji usporednih činova nosio bi oznaku OF-8. U Američkoj vojsci i Britanskoj odgovara mu čin Lieutenant General, U Njemačkoj vojsci Generalleutenant, U Španjolskoj vojsci teniente General.

      General pukovnik a colonel general is a rank of general in many armies. GENERAL MAJOR   GENERAL BOJNIK

      General bojnik je generalski čin u mnogim vojskama. U Hrvatskoj vojsci je čin ispod general pukovnika, a iznad brigadnog generala  (do 1999. godine bio je iznad višeg časničkog čina stožernog brigadira koji je tada ukinut, a uveden je generalski čin brigadnog generala), dok mu u hrvatskoj ratnoj mornarici odgovara čin  kontraadmirala.

      General bojnik (a major general) is a rank of general in many armies.       Brigadni general je uobičajno najniži generalski čin u većini vojski. Čin je u hrvatsku vojnu hijerarhiju uveden 1999. godine, a do tada nije postajao.

      Pukovnik je visoki časnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci. U Američkoj vojsci odgovara činu lieutenant colonel. U Hrvatskoj ratnoj mornarici HRM odgovara činu kapetana fregate. Naziv pukovnik je proistekao od riječi pukovnija (regimenta) i dolazi od riječi puk, narod,

      Bojnik je viši časnički čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, iznad satnika, a ispod pukovnika (najniži viši časnički čin). U drugim vojskama poznatiji je pod nazivom major (od lat. komparativa pridjeva magnus, - a, - um - velik; major - veći), a tako je glasio i naziv čina u JNA. U mnogim slučajevima, to je časnik izravno nadređen činu satnika, odnosno kapetana, a podređen činu potpukovnika, odnosno pukovnika. Prema NATO-ovoj usporednoj klasifikaciji nosi oznaku OF-3, iako je to redovno čin četvrte razine među časničkim činovima. U nekim vojskama riječ major sastavni je dio i nekih dočasničkih činova, kao primjerice sargeant-major u vojnim snagama engleskog govornog područja.U ratnoj mornarici odgovara mu čin kapetana korvete. Naziv bojnik proizilazi iz riječi boj, znači onaj koji vodi bitku.

      Satnik je časnički vojni čin koji se u velikom broju vojski drugih zemalja označuje kao kapetan, pa tako i u bivšoj JNA. Satnik je najviši čin u hijerarhiji nižih časničkih činova u Hrvatskoj vojsci, tik ispod bojnika koji je već viši časnički čin, a iznad natporučnika. U Hrvatskoj ratnoj mornarici odgovara mu čin poručnika bojnog broda. Naziv satnik vuče korjen iz stare Hrvatske/slavenske riječi sat (stotina). Onaj koji vodi stotinu ljudi.

      A Natporučnik (First lieutenant) is a lower-ranking officer in the Croatian Army, below a captain, and above a lieutenant. In the U.S. Army, he is identical to the rank of First Lieutenant. In the Croatian Navy, he corresponds to the rank of lieutenant of a frigate. A Natporučnik is one who is above a lieutenant.

      Poručnik je najniži časnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, ispod čina natporučnika. U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin "Second Lieutenant". U Hrvatskoj ratnoj mornarici odgovara čin poručnik korvete. Izvor naziva poručnik je riječ poruka, onaj koji prenosi poruke (naredbe).

      Poručnik (Lieutenant) is the lowest officer military rank in the Croatian Army, below the rank of First lieutenant. In the US Army, he corresponds to the rank of "Second Lieutenant". Članak 145.

      Djelatni dočasnik može biti promaknut u viši čin kada osim uvjeta iz članka 143. ovoga Zakona završi odgovarajući stupanj dočasničke izobrazbe, odnosno ako je u proteklom ocjenjivačkom razdoblju bio ocijenjen službenim ocjenama »ističe se« i »osobito se ističe« te u činu provede: kao skupnik 3 godine, a kao desetnik, narednik, nadnarednik te stožerni narednik po 4 godine. Dočasniku koji ima višu ili visoku stručnu spremu vrijeme provedeno u činu potrebno za promaknuće skraćuje se za godinu dana.

SEARGENT MAJOR  ČASNIČKI NAMJESNIK

       Časnički namjesnik je najviši dočasnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, iznad čina stožernog narednika. Nakon časničkog namjesnika slijedi časnički čin poručnika. U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin "sergeant major". Časnički namjesnik je također bio najviši dočasnički čin u Hrvatskim oružanim snagama u Nezavisnoj Državi Hrvatskoj od 1944. do 1945. Bio je iznad dočasničkog čina stožernog stražnika a ispod najnižeg časničkog čina zastavnika. Časnički namjesnik je izveden iz dvije riječi časnik i namjesnik, onaj koji naređuje kao časnik.

      The Časnički namjesnik is the highest non-commissioned officer military rank in the Croatian Army, above the rank of Staff Sergeant. MASTER SEARGENT   STOŽERNI NAREDNIK

      Stožerni narednik je viši dočasnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, ispod časničkog namjesnika, a iznad čina nadnarednika. U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin "master sergeant".

FIRST SEARGENT  NADNAREDNIK

      Nadnarednik je viši dočasnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, ispod stožernog narednika, a iznad čina narednika. U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin "first sergeant". Naziv je izveden iz imenice naredba, onaj koji naređuje.

CORPORAL DESETNIK

      Desetnik je niži dočasnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, ispod čina narednika, a iznad čina skupnika. U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin "corporal".

      Rank of Desetnik is lower NCO's rank, under the seargent, and higher than lance corporal. In US Army this is equal to the corporal rank. Desetnik - after Croatian number deset (ten). The one who leads ten men.

LANCE CORPORAL  SKUPNIK

      Skupnik je najniži dočasnički vojni čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, nadređen je svim vojničkim činovima (razvodnik, pozornik, vojnik). U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin "lance corporal" ili u francuskoj "corporal". Naziv kaplar se je koristio i u hrvatskoj vojsci za vrijeme Austro-Ugarske.

SOLDIERS VOJNICI

      Ročnik ocijenjen službenom ocjenom »osobito se ističe« može biti promaknut u čin pozornika. Ročnik može biti promaknut u čin razvodnika ako je s uspjehom završio tečaj za razvodnika. Djelatni i pričuvni vojnik može biti promaknut u čin pozornika i razvodnika ako je ocijenjen najmanje ocjenom »ističe se«. PRIVATE 1st CLASS   RAZVODNIK

      Razvodnik je vojnički čin u Hrvatskoj vojsci, nadređen je ostalim vojničkim činovima (pozornik, vojnik). U Američkoj vojsci mu odgovara čin vojnika prve klase, odnosno "Private 1st class" sukladan NATO Rank Grade OR-3 standardu, u francuskoj "Premier soldat de première classe". Nakon ovog čina dolazi dočasnički čin skupnika. Naziv se izvodi iz glagola razvoditi, znači onaj koji vodi.

Čin pozornika se rijetko dodjeljuje. Nakon ovog čina dolazi čin razvodnika. Pozornik nastaje od riječi pozor (pažnja), onaj koji slijedi naredbu pozor.
