      Odlukom Vrhovnog zapovjednika OS RH 23. prosinca 1992. godine osnovana je 7. gardijska brigada "PUME" sa matičnom bazom u Varaždinu. Osnovnu strukturu činili su pripadnici V. bojne 1. "A" brigada ZNG. Po osnivanju, brigada postaje profesionalna gardijska postrojba i stavlja se pod izravno zapovjedništvo GS OS RH, a prvi joj je zapovjednik bio tada pukovnik Ivan Korade.

CAP INSIGNIA  OZNAKA ZA BERETKU

      Oznaka oblikom prati vanjske obrise hrvatskog grba, a vanjski rubovi, natpisi i obrisni dijelovi prikaza pume pozlaćeni su, dok je podloga crna, osim na liku pume, gdje je smeđa. U kruništu oznake je natpis: 7. GARDIJSKA BRIGADA. Ispod kruništa je, u sredini natpis: RH. U gornjem dijelu štita je natpis: PUMA, ispisan pozlaćenim slovima. U središnjem dijelu je prikaz pume u skoku, što je simbol 7. gardijske brigade.

      The shape of this insignia follows the outer outlines of the Croatian coat of arms, and the outer edges, inscriptions and outlines of the puma are gilded, while the background is black, except for the image of the puma, where it is brown. In the crown of the mark is the inscription: 7. GUARD BRIGADE. Below the crown, in the middle is the inscription: RH. In the upper part of the shield is the inscription: PUMA, written in gilded letters. In the central part is a depiction of a jumping cougar, which is a symbol of the 7th Guards Brigade.

      The 7th Guards Brigade (7. gardijska brigada), also known by their nickname Pumas (Pume), was a (HV) brigade formed on 23 December 1992 in Varaždin. The brigade was initially formed out of the 5th Battalion of the 1st „Tigers“ Brigade and its first commander was Ivan Korade, who led the unit during the war (1991–95).

      The 7th Brigade was disbanded in 2003 when it merged with the 2nd „Thunders“ Brigade. In March 2008 the 2nd Brigade was also disbanded. Members of the former 7th Brigade who had served in the 2nd Brigade 2003–08 were then incorporated into the present-day Armoured Guards Brigade (Gardijska oklopno-mehanizirana brigada or GOMBR) and formed a battalion which uses the original 7th Brigade's nickname and emblem.
