VIRGINIA STATE POLICE  DRŽAVNA POLICIJA

      Oznaka za rukav Državne policije Virginije je dizajnirana 1949. godine od pripadnika odjela i od 1950-te do danas je u upotrebi, nepromijenjena. Korisiti se na rukavima košulja, jakni i zimskih jakni. Za osnovu znaka je korišten grb države Virginije. Latinski motto Sic Semper Tyrannis je geslo Virginije od 1776-te, dvanaest godina prije nego je Virginija, 1788-e postala deseta država SAD-a. Centralna figura grba je rimska božica Virtus, obučena kao Amazonka. Simbolizira ustrajnost, strpljnje u pokušajima, ustrajnost pod stresom, odlučnost i posvećenost državi Virginiji (Commonwealth of Virginia). Znači predstavlja pobjednika nad ugnjetačima, posvećenost službi sa čvrstom mirnoćom i uvijek prisutnom voljom otpora tiraniji, ukoliko bi to bilo potrebno.

      The Virginia State Police uniform shoulder patch was designed by a member of the Department in 1949, adopted in 1950 and used continuously since that time. It is used on the sleeves of all uniform shirts, blouses and winter jackets. The patch design consists of the obverse of the Great Seal of Virginia. The Latin Words, Sic Semper Tyrannis, has been the motto of Virginia since 1776, twelve years prior to the Commonwealth’s ratification as the tenth State in 1788. The central figure of the Great Seal depicts the Roman goddess Virtus dressed as an Amazon. She personifies enduring patience in trials, constancy under stress, resolution, unfailing exertion, and dedication to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Thus, Virginia personified stands as the victor over oppression, dedicated to service with firm patience and ever willing to fight tyranny should it become necessary.

      Predsjednik Ford je 04. 06. 1976.godine potpisao Zakon, predložen od strane Kongresa, o uspostavi Metropolitanske prometne policije (the Metro Transit Police Department MTPD). Oni su jedina policijska agencija koja ima pune ovlasti za provođenje zakona unutar tri različite jurisdikcije: Maryland-a, Virginie i Distrikta Columbia. Imaju 490 policajaca, 64 pripadnika specijalne zaštitne policije te 91 civilnog službenika.  Policajci MTPD-a su zaduženi za provođenje cijele palete zakona na prometnicama u široj okolini Washingtona, što uključuje podzemnu željeznicu i sve vrste javnog autobusnog prevoza.

      On June 4, 1976, President Ford signed into law a bill passed by Congress authorizing the establishment of the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD). MTPD police officers have tri-state jurisdiction with responsibility for a variety of law enforcement and public safety functions in transit facilities throughout the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. The MTPD is unique in U.S. law enforcement as it is the only U.S. police agency that has full local police authority in three different jurisdictions: Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia.  MTPD has an authorized strength of 490 sworn police officers, 64 security special police, and 91 civilian personnel. Officers provide a variety of law enforcement and public safety services on the Metrorail and Metrobus systems in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
