      U Teksasu šerifi i njihovi zamjenici imaju punu jurisdikciju na razini cijelog okruga i stoga mogu legalno vršiti svoju vlast u nekorporiranim i inkorporiranim područjima okruga (Texas ima 254 okruga). Međutim, oni primarno provode zakon samo na području nekog okruga i obično ne patroliraju u gradovima koji imaju svoje policijske agencije. Šerifi i njihovi zamjenici imaju ovlasti za privođenje bez državnih naloga za bilo koje kazneno djelo (osim za određene prometne prekršaje) počinjeno u njihovoj prisutnosti. Oni također mogu privoditi osobe sa potjernice bilo gdje u državi.

      In Texas, sheriffs and their deputies are fully empowered peace officers with county-wide jurisdiction and thus, may legally exercise their authority in unincorporated and incorporated areas of a county (Texas have 254 counties). However, they primarily provide law enforcement services for only the unincorporated areas of a county and do not normally patrol in incorporated cities which have their own police agencies. Sheriffs and their deputies have statewide warrantless arrest powers for any criminal offense (except for certain traffic violations) committed within their presence or view. They may also serve arrest warrants anywhere in the state.

TEXAS RANGERS  TEKSAŠKI RENDžERI

      Kako je rastao broj stanovnika na „granici“, (američki Divlji zapad), rasla je i potreba za označavanjem snaga reda. Kako nije bilo lokalnih proizvođača značaka, šerifi su se snalazili sami. Često su značke bile izrezane iz dna ili poklopca konzerve. Drugi popularniji način je bilo izrezivanje zvijezda iz kovanica. Rendžeri su koristili meksičku kovanicu od osam reala iz 1800-te godine. 1962. godine nastavljaju tu tradiciju, ovaj put koristeći kovanicu od pet meksičkih pesosa iz 1940.godine.

      When the number of people on the frontier expanded, a means of marking the local Peace Officer became necessary. Lack of local badge-makers meant such lawmen had to make their badges from materials at hand. The tin star was cutout from the top or bottom of a tin can. Another popular method of making a badge was to use a coin and cut out a star from the center. The Texas Rangers cut a star shape from a coin: the 1800s Mexican Ocho Reales (pieces of eight). In 1962 the Rangers resumed this practice using the 1940s Mexican Cinco Peso coins.

EXPLORER  "MLADI POLICAJCI"

      Explorer ("Istraživač") je program namijenjen mladima od četrnaeste do dvadeset i prve godine života (punoljetnost u SAD-u) u kojem mladići i djevojke koji imaju završenih osam godina školovanja upoznaju policijski posao "iznutra". (Nose uniforme i opremu, osim oružja). To je izvanredna prilika za one kojima je želja da postanu policajci, da iskuse dio rada policijskih snaga kroz razne zabavne aktivnosti.

        Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or are 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday. Law Enforcement Explorer posts help youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.
