      U znaku Australske federalne policije (Australian Federal Polive AFP) je Australski državni grb ispod kojeg je ispisan naziv policije. Australska federalna policija ima jurisdikciju nad cijelim federalnim teritorijem (Commonwealth of Australia) uključivši i odgovornost za sigurnost vladinih institucija, političara i diplomata. Iako vuče korijene još iz 1901. godine, službeno je nastala tek 19. 10. 1979. godine spajanjem bivše savezne policije (Commonwealth Police) i Policije glavnog grada (Australian Capital Territory Police). Slijedeći mjesec im se pridodaju savezni ured za narkotike i Australska carinska služba. Od 2007. godine Australska federalna policija prelazi pod upravu Ministarstva unutarnjih poslova  (prije je bio u nadležnosti Ministarstva pravde i carina).

     The Australian Federal Police patch displays the nation's coat-of-arms. The AFP was established in 1979 when the Commonwealth Police and Australian Capital Territory Police amalgamated. It is a unique federal law enforcement agency as it provides uniformed police in the Australian Capital Territory. They were then joined together with the Commonwealth to form the Australian Federal Police but before they were amalgamated a large portion of the officers from the Australian Capitol Territory Police wich were transferred to a new Service called the Australian Protective Service and their job was to guard politicians, diplomats and government buildings. Over the years their job has evolved and they now do a lot more than they started off doing, they now guard all Australian international Airports and sea ports and all sorts of government installations.

      Australska zaštitna služba (APS) bila je agencija za provođenje zakona australskog Commonwealtha koja je postojala između 1984. i 2004. APS je stvorena razdvajanjem komponente zaštitne službe AFP-a u novu agenciju. U početku je bila odgovorna za zaštitu osoblja i imovine australske vlade; strane diplomatske misije i međunarodno zaštićene osobe (IPP); te pružanje usluga osiguranja imigracijskih pritvorskih centara. Od 1990. APS su raspoređivani kao službenici zračne sigurnosti („nebeski maršali“). APS nikada nije vršila funkcije tjelohranitelja; tamo gdje je to bila odgovornost Commonwealtha, funkciju osigurava AFP.       The Australian Protective Service (APS) was an Australian Commonwealth law enforcement agency which existed between 1984 and 2004. It was initially responsible for protecting personnel and property of the Australian government; foreign diplomatic missions and Internationally Protected Persons (IPPs); and the provision of custodial services at immigration detention centres. From 1990 the APS and deployed as Air Security Officers („sky marshals“). Close Personal Protection (CPP), or bodyguard, functions were never provided by the APS. The staff and functions of the APS were reintegrated into the AFP in 2004 as part of Government efforts to better coordinate the response to terrorism.

      Protective Service Officers (PSOs) are still employed within the AFP. Their primary functions remain the protection of selected sensitive sites across Australia including Parliament House, the residences of the Governor General and Prime Minister, foreign embassies and consulates, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) facilities and certain Defence facilities. PSOs, whilst not sworn police, have powers of arrest under the Australian Federal Police Act 1979 for specific Commonwealth offences.  

      *Maralinga oznaku nose policajci koji čuvaju testno područje za ispitivanje atomske bombe. To je u stvari Britansko testno područje jer Australija nema atomsku bombu. Britanci su testirali sve svoje atomske bombe na ovom području. Tereni oko Maralindga su još uvijek radiaktivni.

      *Patch is worn by members of the Australian Protective Service who guard Maralinga, which is Australias atomic bomb testing ground. I should say that it is Britains Atomic Bomb Testing ground as Australia does not have an Atomic Bomb but the British tested all of its atomic bombs here. The ground around Maralinga is still radio active.

      This Police Force no longer exists. The patch was embroidered straight onto the sleeve of either tunic or greatcoat (very rare patch).The Australian Capitol Territory Police policed Australians capitol city Canberra and the surrounding country side.

      Iako se koristi samo u posebnim okolnostima, AFP jedinstveno ima odvojene činove i starijeg narednika i štabnog narednika.       Although only used in special circumstances, the AFP uniquely has separate ranks of both senior sergeant and staff sergeant. Whilst on deployment in peacekeeping operations with the International Deployment Group members of the AFP are appointed to the ranks of senior sergeant (three chevrons below a crown which is surrounded by a laurel leaf), station sergeant (a crown surrounded by a laurel leaf), superintendent (a pip and a crown), or commander (three pips and crown).
