The Armed Forces of Armenia (Հայաստանի
Հանրապետության
զինված
ուժեր)
comprise two services: the Army, and the Air Force and Air defence (a
unified branch). Though it was partially formed out of the former Soviet
Army forces stationed in the Armenian SSR (mostly units of the 7th
Guards Army of the Transcaucasian Military District), the military of
Armenia can be traced back to the founding of the First Republic Armenia
in 1918. Being a landlocked country, Armenia has no navy.

The Commander-in-Chief of the military is the Prime Minister of Armenia.
The Ministry of Defence is in charge of political leadership, while
military command remains in the hands of the general staff, headed by
the Chief of Staff. Armenia established a Ministry of Defence on 28
January 1992. Border guards subject to the Ministry patrol Armenia's
borders with Georgia and Azerbaijan, while Russian troops continue to
monitor its borders with Iran and Turkey. Since 2002, Armenia has been a
member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. |

BORDER GUARD
GRANIČNA STRAŽA |
|
Armenska granična straža je grana Oružanih snaga Armenije zadužena za
čuvanje armenske granice sa susjednim zemljama: Turskom, Azerbejdžanom,
Iranom i Gruzijom. Granična straža radi u suradnji sa ruskim vojnim
kontingentom stacioniranim u Armeniji, sa štabom u 102. vojnoj bazi
Gyumri. U početku je Granična straža bila u sklopu Ministarstva odbrane
(od osnivanja 28. 01. 1992.), ali je 2004 godine prebačena pod
jurisdikciju Ministarstva nacionalne sigurnosti i unutrašnjih poslova.

|
The Armenian Border Guard is the branch of the Armed forces of Armenia
that is responsible for monitoring and guarding Armenia's borders with
neighbors Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran and Georgia. The border guard works
in conjunction with a Russian military
contingent stationed in Armenia and
headquartered at the 102nd Military Base in Gyumri. The border guard
initially worked under the framework of the Ministry of Defence when it
was established on 28 January 1992, but in 2004 it was transferred to

The Military ranks of Armenia are the military insignia used by the
Armed Forces of Armenia. Being a former Soviet Republic, Armenia shares
a rank structure similar to that of Russia. Armenia is a landlocked
country, and does therefore not possess a navy or navy ranks. |
