(u Zanjanu i Isfahanu). Uz redovnu vojsku Oružane snage imaju i
"Revolucionarnu gardu" od oko 120.000 pripadnika koji imaju sve grane kao
i redovna vojska, čak i specijalne snage (Quds). |

This is the oldest Special forces unit in the modern Iranian army , and
were originally trained by (and with) US Army Green Berets (1948-78) and
israelies paratroopers in the 70's. The unit has seen action in Oman
(1970-76) as the part of Shah's military aid to the Oman's dictator
against communist rebels/-insurgents, and they along with other special
forces have been most effective troops during Iran-Iraq war, specially
for their ability to conduct low-level penetration into hostile
territory (HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) & LALO (Low Altitude Low
Opening)). They are trained in any aspect of conducting special

REVOLUCIONARNA GARDA |

Vojska čuvara islamske revolucije (Sepāh-e
Pāsdārān-e Enqelāb-e Eslāmi)
češće nazivana Revolucionarna garda je grana iranskih Oružanih snaga.
Dok regularna vojska čuva iranske granice i održava unutrašnji red,
Revolucionarna garda (pasadaran) štite islamski poredak u zemlji. Broje
kontrolira Perzijski zaljev. Uz to Revolucionarna garda kontrolira

The Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (Sepāh-e
Pāsdārān-e Enqelāb-e Eslāmi, or Sepāh for short), often called
Revolutionary Guards, is a branch of Iran's military, founded after the
Iranian revolution. Whereas the regular military (artesh) defends Iran's
borders and maintains internal order, according to the Iranian
constitution, the Revolutionary Guard (pasdaran) is intended to protect
the country's Islamic system. According to some outside observers, it is
intended to prevent internal dissident and military uprisings. The IRGC
has roughly 125,000 military personnel including ground, aerospace and
naval forces. Its naval forces are now the primary forces tasked with
operational control of the Persian Gulf. It also controls the
paramilitary Basij militia which has about 90,000 active personnel, and
in recent years has developed into a "multibillion-dollar business
empire," and is reportedly the "third-wealthiest organization" in Iran
after the National Iranian Oil Company and the Imam Reza Endowment.

KINGDOM OF IRAN
KRALJEVINA IRAN |
|
Do
1977 Kopnena vojska broji 220.000 vojnika, raspoređenih u 3 oklopne
divizije, 4 pješadijske te samostalne brigade (padobranska, specijalne
snage itd..). Uz to je postojala i avijacija KoV-a sa preko 700 borbenih
helikoptera te 60-tak aviona. Avijacija je brojala oko 100.000
pripadnika raspoređenih u 22 eskadrile, od čega 15 lovačkih eskadrila,
dok su ostale bile transportne, izviđačke i druge. Podršku avijaciji je
pružala šezdesetak helikoptera i tri SAM baterije.

The development of a modern military force in Iran is closely associated
with the rise of Reżā Khan, from being an officer in the Cossack
division (formed in 1879) to his becoming, in the aftermath of the coup
he led in 1921, the commander of the army and the Minister of War, Prime
Minister in 1923 and later the founder of the Pahlavi Dynasty in 1926. |
By 1977 the army of about 220,000 contained three armored divisions,
each with six tank battalions and five mechanized infantry battalions,
another four infantry divisions, four independent brigades which
included one airborne, one special forces, and two infantry, and finally
the Army Aviation Command which operated 700 combat helicopters in
addition to sixty fixed-winged aircraft. Numbering 100,000 men in 1977,
the air force had grown faster than the other branches. It consisted of
twenty-two squadrons, fifteen of which were fighters; other consisted of
transport, tankers, and reconnaissance. Over sixty helicopters and three
SAM battalions supported the air force. The navy, still the smallest of
the three branches, had increased its personnel in 1977 to 30,000. Rapid
turnovers in its command system, due to corruption among the
high-ranking officers, did not permit the navy to develop to the degree
that the air force did. |
