      Snage Nacionalne policije su odgovorne za provođenje zakona i održavanje reda uglavnom u gradovima te nekim posebnim lokacijama, kao što su aerodoromi (gdje usko surađuju sa carinicima (Gümrük Muhafaza)). Prometne policija je zadužena za sigurnost prometa kao i za registraciju vozila. Nacionalana policija ima i izuzetno važnu ulogu u obavještajnim i protuterorističkim operacijama. Najviša komanda nacionalne policije "Generalni direktorat sigurnosti" (Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü) je smještena u Ankari. Svaki distrikt ima svoj Direktorat (İl Emiyet Müdürlüğü). Organizaciono, policija je centralizirana i ima hijerarhiju sličnu onoj u Turkim oružanim snagama.

      Organizaciono nacionalna policija "ide" od Centrale organizacije, Provincijskih organizacija, 81 policijskog provincijskog direktorata, 751 policijske stanice (unutar ovih 81 direktorata), 22 direktorata granične policije, 18 policjskih stanica u Slobodnim zonama te 834 policijske stanice. Općenito, zadaci policije su: osiguranje javnog reda i mira, osiguranje sigurnosti osoba i imovine, otkrivanje i privođenje (te dostava dokaznih materijala) sudskim tjelima kao i ostale zadaće određene zakonom. Političke zadaće Nacionalne policije su osiguranje integriteta države te održanje ustavnog poretka.

      The General Directorate of Security (Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü) in the provinces, operates under the command of governors (vali) and district governors (kaymakam). Civil administrators (mülki amir) are responsible for the security and wellbeing of towns and districts. The Turkish national Police operates within the network of the civil administration system and carries out its duties under the command and control of the civil authority. Town governors and heads of district administrations supervise the force.

      The TNP is organised as follows: Central organisation, Provincial organisation, 81 Directorates of Provincial Police, 751 Police Directorates of Towns affiliated to Provinces, 22 Border Gates Police Directorates, 18 Free-Zone police stations and 834 police stations in 81 Provinces. In general, the police’s responsibility are to: provide public peace and order, provide security of persons and properties, detect, arrest and transfer both offenders and case evidence to the appropriate judicial bodies, perform duties apart from the administrative such as judicial assigned by laws, regulations and government acts and prevent crime in order to protect public safety and order. The TNP also has political duties such as the protection of the integrity of the state and the preservation of constitutional order. Furthermore, the TNP has administrative functions, including preventive, protective and assistance duties.

      All Turkish police officers wear navy-blue uniforms and caps. Patrol cars can be identified by their unique blue-white design and the writing “Polis” on the side doors and hood. Superintendents and inspectors wear silver stars rank on their shoulders. Highest-ranking officers wear gold stars.
