4th ARMY CORPS  4. ARMIJSKI KORPUS

They spent almost three years there. At the Greco-Turkish War it was renamed Thracian Army and was stationed in Adrianople At 1922, after the defeat of the Hellenic forces in Asia Minor it covered the withdrawn of many units to Thrace. In 1976 the Corps was reformed in Xanthi and currently is the most powerful section of the Hellenic Army. The corps motto is Τώ ξιφεί τόν δεσμό λελύσθαι - Solve the knot with the sword.

U svojem djelu o taktici, bizantinski vladar Leo VI Mudri, među opsadnim mašinama navodi i "ovnove".
The Engineer's emblem is the ram. It symbolizes the siege ram, of striking nature of ancient Greeks, which was used for violating the entrenchment. The ram, as a siege machine, was delivered by the Ancient Greeks and was initially used by the Romans and posterior by the Byzantines. In the "tactics" Leo VI the wise says that among the siege machines are included the so called ''seige rams'' .For the protection of the city walls against the siege rams, packsaddles field by straw or sand were used. The head of the ram in various representations of the Ionians symbolized the force and the power. The ram in ancient time was the symbol of freedom. Frixus and Elli mounted on a ram in their attempt for escape from inner Asia to the free and democratic Greece. Ram fleece was the Golden Fleece, which Jason managed to seize with the help of Argonauts, and he killed the dreadful dragon, symbol of slavery, and he emancipated the daughter. Over the ram there is an epigram, which says ''as long with the words the acts come'', meaning immediate after a decision has taken place, it must be implemented, exactly as in the operations of Engineering.

The unit traces its ancestry to the 32nd Infantry Regiment, formed in Preveza in 1919, then belonging to the VIII Infantry Division. It took part in the Greco-Turkish War and later in the Greco-Italian War during the Second World War. After the occupation of Greece by the Germans, it was disbanded. Zafirios, thank you

The C' Army Corps (parent HQ of NDC - GR) is a historic Hellenic Army formation. It was first established in August 1913 in the city of Ioannina and in December 1913 moved its HQ to Thessaloniki. Since then it has successfully participated in all national campaigns, including WW I, WW II, etc. In recent times, C' Corps units have participated in NATO, UN and EU peace operations in the Balkans.

The Motto "to cut the Gordian knot" is a famous phrase of Alexander the Great. During his campaign against Persian Empire in 334 B.C., in the town of Gordion, there was an extremely complicated knot. The legend was that, whoever could untie the knot would become conquer of the entire known world. Alexander the Great cut the Gordian knot with his sword, facing with his own way the challenge. Respectively, the motto represents the strong will of the HQ to overcome every challenge will ever face. The Greek flag on the upper half of the emblem indicates the host nation of NDC - GR. The small emblem inside the cross of the Greek flag is part of the emblem of C' Corps, the parent HQ of NDC - GR. The NATO logo specifies that the HQ is under the operational command of SACEUR. The sarissa spear and the shield in the centre of the emblem signify the HQ' s location, since they are part of the heritage of the Macedonian dynasty who founded the city of Thessaloniki.

HELLENIC FLAG  Σημαία της Ελλάδος  GRČKA ZASTAVA

Zatim da plavo predstavljaju more i nebo, a bijelo valove itd...

The flag of Greece (Greek: Σημαία της Ελλάδος, popularly referred to as the Γαλανόλευκη or the Κυανόλευκη, the "blue-white") is based on nine equal horizontal stripes of blue alternating with white. There is a blue canton in the upper hoist-side corner bearing a white cross; the cross symbolises Greek Orthodoxy, the established religion of the people of Greece. According to popular tradition, the nine stripes represent the nine syllables of the phrase "Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος" ("Freedom or Death", " E-lef-the-ri-a i Tha-na-tos"), the five blue stripes for the syllables "Έλευθερία" and the four white stripes "ή Θάνατος". There is also a different theory, that the nine stripes symbolize the nine Muses, the goddesses of art and civilization (nine has traditionally been one of the numbers of reference for the Greeks). The above patterns were officially adopted by the First National Assembly at Epidaurus on 13 January 1822. Blue and white have many interpretations, symbolizing the colors of the famed Greek sky and sea (combined with the white clouds and waves), etc.

OPERATION DISTINGUISHED GAMES  OPERACIJA DOSTOJANSTVENE IGRE

Panos, thank you!

NATO's support to Greece during the Olympic and Paralympic Games is an example of the kind of preventive role for which NATO is well-suited. In this case, NATO provided AWACS aircraft, maritime patrols and augmentation to Greece's chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defence capabilities.
