      Volksmarine (Narodna mornarica) je osnovana 1956. godine kao dio Narodne armije. Brojala je oko 10.000 pripadnika. Kao i sve ostale grane Narodne armije, raspušteni su 02. 10. 1990, dan prije službenog ujedinjenja Njemačke. Dio njenih pripadnika je prebačen u Njemačku moranricu (Deutsche Marine), a drugi su postali dio Njemačke granične policije. Najveći je dio brodova i plovila prodan ili bačen u otpad.

      Volksmarine (People's Navy) was the official designation of the maritime forces, part of the National People's Army, established in 1956. There were about 10000 men. The People's Navy was dissolved, like all other branches of the former National People's Army, on 2 October 1990 – the day before the official reunification of Germany. Some of its staff was assumed into the Bundesmarine (which was henceforth called Deutsche Marine), some by the German Border Police. Most of the ships and other equipment were scrapped or sold.

SPECIALIST'S INSIGNIAS  OZNAKE SPECIJALNOSTI

      The insignia for special training was a round patch, seven centimeters in diameter in either navy blue wool or white cotton fabric, to match the uniform types, with the appropriate emblem embroidered on it in red. Special training insignia were not unique to the Volksmarine but were used by it more extensively than the other services. Although the 1986 uniform regulation greatly reduced the number of special training insignia for the other services, the Volksmarine retained its full complement of these insignia.

LONG VOYAGE BADGE  ZNAČKA "ZA VELIKE PLOVIDBE"

      Značka za Veliko putovanje bila je nevladina nagrada Nacionalne narodne armije Njemačke Demokratske Republike (DDR), koja je za Narodnu mornaricu uvedena 27. svibnja 1981., naredbom broj 43/81 od strane ministra za nacionalnu obranu Heinz Hoffmann. Značku su mogli dobiti svi pripadnici Narodne mornarice koji su na posebnom zadatku prešli određeni broj nautičkih milja na određenim vrstama brodova. Dodijeljena je i civilnim službenicima Narodne mornarice, a u iznimnim slučajevima, članovima stranih flota ako ispunjavaju uvjete za nagradu.

      The badge for the Great Voyage was a non-governmental award of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was introduced for the People's Navy on May 27, 1981 with order number 43/81 by the Minister for National Defense Heinz Hoffmann. The badge could be given to all members of the People's Navy who had covered a certain number of nautical miles for specific types of ship as part of special tasks. It was also awarded to civilian employees of the People's Navy and, in exceptional cases, members of foreign fleets if they met the award requirements.

      Pentagonalna značka visoka je 45 mm, širine 38 mm i izrađena je od obojenih metala. Sa prednje strane gornjeg područja prikazuje se zastava Narodne mornarice, a ispod crni natpis „Za veliko putovanje“ (FÜR GROSSE FAHRT) na zlatnoj pozadini. U središtu nasuprot tamnoplavoj pozadini nalazi se zlatni mornarički ratni brod koji se pomiče s lijeve strane. Ispod toga su tirkizno stilizirani valovi, a simbol globusa s kompasom se nalazi u sredini. Kraj i istovremeno vrh značke formiran je sidrom koje se spaja u sidreni lanac s lijeve i desne strane. To također formira i vanjsku granicu značke sve do slova. Čitava značka bila je prekrivena poliesterskom smolom. Leđima je prikazana horizontalno lemljena igla sa kontra kukom za pričvršćivanje je na mornarsko odijelo, gdje se trebala nositi s gornje desne strane ispod oznake za klasifikaciju.

      The pentagonal badge is 45 mm high, 38 mm wide made of non-ferrous metal. It shows on its front in the upper area the flag of the People's Navy and below the black inscription “For great journey” (FÜR GROSSE FAHRT) on a golden background. In the center, against a dark blue background, lies a golden naval warship moving to the left. Below this are turquoise stylized waves and the symbol of the globe with a compass rose in the middle. The end and at the same time the tip of the badge is formed by an anchor that merges into an anchor chain on the left and right. This also forms the outer boundary of the badge up to the lettering. The whole badge was covered with polyester resin. The back shows a horizontally soldered needle with a counter-hook to attach it to the sailor suit, where it was to be worn on the upper right side under the classification badge.
